Mermaid-Fairy Tail Tutorial

Over the years, Piper has been asked many questions over and over about her hair: How long is it? Has it ever been cut? What kind of hairstyles does Mummy do on your hair? This leads me to share some of the hairstyles I have created for her and a tutorial on one of them.

Piper loves her hair braided best of all, but she puts up with my crazy notions of various hairstyles.

These variations of a classic bun allows for Piper to play pirates without having her hair get in the way.

Piper's hair

Piper’s hair is long enough to do several braid varieties.

This Mermaid-Fairy hair tutorial was requested by someone who could never imagine braiding their daughter’s hair in something as intricate as a 6-stranded braid. When I explained how I did it for Piper, she implored me to share it on my Blog. Well, here goes nothing…

I separated Piper's hair down the middle of her back in order to braid it.

After I made 2 separate braids, I pulled a little of each braid out so that the plait was widened.

When both braids were widened, I attached the ends together with an elastic.

I flossed a piece of ribbon with a darning needle and then proceeded to stitch the 2 braids together.

Piper wanted her beloved red butterfly clip, so I put that in her hair. The result looks like a very intricate Mermaid tail.

Piper is perfectly happy playing in the backyard while sporting her monster truck jammies and her hair rolled in foam curlers.

I could not resist one last photo of Piper.  She is perfectly happy playing in the backyard while sporting her monster truck jammies and flip-flops. I love the added touch of her hair rolled in foam curlers. This photo will probably haunt her later on in life and require therapy.
